What is SIW?

Social Inclusion Week (SIW) Australia is about encouraging communities to reconnect and be inclusive of all cultures, age groups, nationalities and abilities.

Founded by Dr Jonathon Welch AM, and run by the School of Hard Knocks, SIW was launched in 2009 as a way for communities to share knowledge and experience, and raise awareness.

It is an annual initiative that takes place the last week in November. This year, Social Inclusion Week Australia runs from Saturday 24 November – Sunday 02 December 2018

OUR THEME IS:

CONNECT COLLABORATE AND CELEBRATE!

We encourage people of all ages to join together and engage with the objectives of the week by hosting or attending a social inclusion focused event.

Key communities who can often feel excluded are young people 12–25 years of age, jobless families with children, people with a disability or mental illness, those who are homeless, the elderly and Indigenous Australians.

Celebrate SIW by hosting your own event! You can get tips on how to get started on our Resources page.
